NDOC describes LCC as the department's seventh major institution. It was built and opened in two phases. The first phase opened in August 1995 with two 168-cell housing units. LCC is outside the ordinary sheriff and courthouse workflow. The Pershing County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Jerry Allen, handles local jail custody at 395 9th St. LCC handles sentenced state prisoners under NDOC. Confusing those two Lovelock facilities can send a caller to the wrong agency. If a case is still in the first local court stage, the Lake Township Justice Court path may be more relevant than the state prison.
Lovelock Correctional Center Visiting
LCC visiting is published by NDOC, not by the Pershing County Sheriff's Office. The LCC visiting page gives unit-based time blocks and states that check-in is 30 minutes before the visit time. Special visits must be approved by the associate warden of operations and are non-contact behind glass only. There are no visiting hours on Thursdays in the listed schedule.
NDOC's temporary schedule effective January 12, 2026 closes every other week of visiting until further notice. Week 1 remains unit-specific. Week 2 listed visit blocks are closed. Lovelock Correctional Center Programs
NDOC lists a broad set of programs at LCC. Educational options include GED, high school diploma, and college opportunities. Vocational and work programs include dry cleaning, culinary food service, computers, horticulture, RESPECT, ServSafe, automotive maintenance and repair, and Prison Industries. The Prison Industries garment factory complex is described as a 40,000-square-foot operation.
The Structured Living Program began as a 10-week military-style institutional orientation and expanded to a six-month program with merit credits, classes, programs, education, jobs, and physical fitness. NDOC also lists medical and mental-health staff at LCC. Staffing context includes 213 Protective Service staff, classification specialists, maintenance, warehouse, cooks, laundry and dry cleaning, recreation, and administrative staff. Program availability can depend on classification, conduct, staffing, space, and current NDOC policy.

Lovelock Correctional Center Transfers
A person does not move to Lovelock Correctional Center just because of a Pershing County arrest. The local sequence starts with arrest, booking, court review, charges, and possible sentence. After conviction and a prison sentence to NDOC custody, the person leaves county jail channels and enters state correctional intake and classification. Once transferred, the sheriff app and county jail phone line may no longer be the right source for location.
Federal and immigration custody are separate again.
